“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere efforts and intelligent execution….We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”- Socrates

These words clearly define St. Gregory’s College and by extension, Master Azuike Kenechukwu Anthony’s determination at the closing ceremony of the just concluded 2023 Cowbellpedia Competition on the 28th & 29th of September, 2023.

Cowbellpedia is a competition which was initially Mathematics based. It was last hosted in 2018. In the 2023 edition, STEAM was infused. It involved Mathematics, General Knowledge, Science and Computer, Puzzles and Strategies.

St Gregory’s College was represented by Master Onyemenam Johnpraise and Master Azuike Kenechukwu Anthony who qualified for the knockout stage. Onyemenam Johnpraise got to the semi-final stage of the junior cateory and was awarded a sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira.

Azuike Kenechukwu Anthony, in his tenacity, made it to the final stage of the junior category after being the first contestant to hit the highest level of 100 points since the beginning of the knockout stage.

Master Kenechukwu made it to the final stage prepared and enthusiastic; he levelled on 70 points with the top two students in the finals. Due to the difference in time average, he took third position and was awarded the sum of Two Million Naira, while two laptops were awarded to his school.

The competition was tension-packed and only the top schools in Nigeria made it to the finals: amongst them are Graceland College, Port-Harcourt, Ambassadors College Ota, Ogun State and St. Gregory’s College, Ikoyi, Lagos.

St. Gregory’s College Students Clinch the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition Gold Awards.

Our successes are neither magical nor mysterious: they are the natural consequence of our consistent application of basic fundamentals.  Anthony Jay Robins, the American writer and coach says, “It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It’s what we do consistently.”
St Gregory’s College has been intentional over the years in making holistic success our focus. This has contributed in keeping St. Gregory’s College at the acme of excellence.

Recently, our students etched their names among the international stars at the 2023 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.
The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is the world’s oldest international schools’ writing contest, established by the Society in 1883. It was aimed at elevating youth voices and developing key skills through creative writing. This encourages the consideration of new perspective to the challenges that the world faces.

This year, the competition required entrants to explore the power young people hold with the global community and consider how this power can be harnessed to make a meaningful impact in the world.
Three students from our College; ofoegbunam Tochukwu, Ndulue Paul and Opara Donald submitted their essays in June earlier this year. Their essays caught the interest of the judges.  Ofoegbunam Tochukwu’s essay entry addressed Gender Identification as opposed to Science and Religion. Ndulue Paul Jaricot filed in Prodigy: Discrimination against the Academic Challenge of an Average Student while Opara Donald submitted The Beacon: Age Doesn’t Matter.
These three entries have crowned St. Gregory’s College an additional international recognition with Gold awards and Gold finalist awards.
We give God the thanks.
